2013 Overseas Competition Selection Criteria

Overseas Invitations: Overseas Competitions Selection Criteria applies

a. Asian GP (by invitation only) (30 April, 4 & 8 May)

b. Taiwan Open (24 – 27 May)

c. Hong Kong Open (July) TBC

d. Vietnam Open (July) TBC

e. Thailand Open (September) TBC

f. Malaysia Open (October) TBC

Overseas Competition Selection Criteria (OCSC)

i) Use the current OCSC (please refer to SAA website postings)

ii) Based on quota by the host country and/or SAA’s decision to go beyond or under quota

iii) Use performance results of last 6 months’ from the date of the Overseas Meet for selection or final EBN date.

iv) If the numbers are under quota, those who meet the OCSC will not have to pay; and those who do not meet the OCSC, will have to pay air ticket only. Room and board will be absorbed by the quota.

v) If the invitation allows for 2 Athletes per event but more than 2 Athletes meet the qualifying mark:

a. A final run/jump/throw-off trial will be held to select the best 2 athletes.

b. The trial date will be announced once SAA receives the date for the final EBN.

c. For the relays, where necessary, a final run-off will be conducted to select the final team of relay runners.

vi) If the number exceeds the quota, all Athletes will be ranked according to the % off the SEA Games Qualifying marks using the IAAF 2011 scoring points.

a. If the number of Athletes who have met the OCSC is above the invited quota, SAA will have the last decision to send only the quota number invited or send all who have met the OCSC.

b. If SAA decides to send only the quota number, all those who met the criteria will be cross-ranked according to % off SEA Games Qualifying marks using the IAAF points.

vii) Athletes who do not meet the OCSC but wish to compete can do so by seeking SAA to sanction them to compete and if they pay their own air ticket and room and board as well.

viii) SAA reserves the right to drop the Athlete (qualified or selected or self funded) from the team if the Athlete is deemed unfit to perform at a competitive level.
