Chan Sheng Yao of Hwa Chong Institution coming into the 52nd National Inter School Track & Field Championships 2011 has a personal best of 4.00 meters in the ‘B’ boys pole vault event.
The 15-year-old remarkably improved his lifetime best by some 38 centimeters on day four (18th April, Monday) of the Championships.
He soared to a new PB height of 4.38 meters, which deservedly earned him the gold medal. His nearest competitor, Nick Ho Ellis of ACS(I) could only muster a 4.00 meter effort for the silver.
Not only the youngster achieved a personal best, but he also established a new record for the ‘B’ boys pole vault event.
The mark was 2 centimeters better than 4.36 meters height registered by his senior, Sean Lim Zi Qing back in 2009.
Chan Sheng Yao has enable a clean sweep of records by pole vaulters from coach David Yeo’s stable. The former SAA Chief of high performance now has pole vaulters who hold records from men’s national, boys junior, women’s national, and now national schools.
