Q) What are your hopes, dream and target this SEA Games?
I hope to do a personal best for this SEA Games, at least a 5.00m.
Q) How’s your preparation for the SEA Games?
So far so good. No injury so far. Has been making some changes to my techniques recently.
Q) What are some of the biggest challenges in your sports career so far leading to SEA Games and your athletics career?
The biggest challenge is injuries for me. I suffered from heel contusion just before the previous edition SEA Games 2013.
Hamstring pull in 2012 also caused me to be out of training for 4 months just when a new peak.
Q) How did you specialise in your particular event? Why this event, what’s the attraction?
I was chosen to join Pole Vault by the track and field teacher i/c back when i was in high school. Pole vault is a very different event. Besides physically demanding, it requires great focus and good body coordination. Last but not least, pole vault is a spectacular event to watch, and I think it is very cool.
Q) Who is your coach, tell us more about him/her. Also a mention of your previous coaches.
My coach is David Yeo. He is a no nonsense coach.
Q) Do you take care of your nutrition and diet? Your opinion on supplements and food.
Honestly, I do not really take care of my nutrition and diet. In general, i avoid food that are high in fats I ensure that I have proper meals (a balance between carbs and proteins) so I will be sufficiently refuelled after intense trainings.
Q) Aside from athletics, what else interest you? You could say the other part of your life beyond athletics.
I will like to travel overseas a lot.
Q) How do you fit in your training/competing with your family and studies/work?
Good time management.
Q) Share with the readers, some aspects of your training regime.
Off season, i train 4 times a week. Mostly jumps session, if the weather doesn’t allow me to jump, I will be doing physical conditioning.
If i have major competition, I train 5 times a week.
Q) What are your long term athletics goals?
Winning a medal at Asian Games.
Q) What advice do you have for young aspiring athletes?
Train hard. Train smart.
