Coach Qi Zutan was employed by the association back in the 90’s to spearhead our national training program.
The China coach was here in Singapore for a coaching stint between 1990 to 1993.
Under his watchful eyes, Coach Qi Zutan would put through punishing routines to our national athletes at the old National Stadium in Kallang.
He was partly responsible for our best athletics showing at the 17th Southeast Asian Games held in Singapore from 12 June to 20 June 1993.
The athletes who have trained under him and advised by him includes:
- Yu Long Nyu (Heptathlon)
- Chan See Hui
- Wong Yew Tong (coaching together with Lim Boot Hiang)
- Ho Aik Teng (High jump)
- Huang Hwa Ren (Javelin throw)
- Chua Boon Yao (Discus throw)
- Lim Chow Hoon (Shot Put)
- some young students as well
Now 81-years-old, he now stays in Beijing Dong Cheng District with his wife, youngest son, son in law and grandson.
Recently SAA Chief, Sport Development & Performance Mr. James Wong was in China for a course attending the IAAF CEO/General secretary course.
Through James, coach Qi convey his seasons greetings and well-wishes to all his friends in Singapore.
