You are warmly invited to participate in two CCE talks by Dr Iñigo Mujika, a keynote speaker at the Singapore Sports Institute Annual Symposium 2014. Dr Mujika is a leading expert in the areas of peaking and tapering. He is now Associate Professor at the University of the Basque Country, Associate Researcher at Finis Terrae University in Chile, and Associate Editor for the International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance.

The first talk (Scientific Bases of Long and Short Term Training) will cover the basic aspects of long-term and short-term periodization, the limitations of traditional periodization for modern sport and the alternative planning options at hand. The session will also focus on the importance of training intensity distribution, the use of strength training for endurance performance, and the importance of tapering strategies in the lead up to major competitions.

    Cost : $25 for NROC members, $50 for Non-NROC members

The second talk (How to Taper and Peak for Optimal Performance) will provide coaches with the most relevant, in-depth information necessary to understand and plan their peaking strategies for major competitions, by analysing the present knowledge about tapering design, its physiological consequences and related nutritional and environmental factors. The potential applications of tapering strategies to team sports will also be covered, discussing league competition situations and peaking for a major championship
