It was a historic moment yesterday on Day 3 of Athletics action at the National Stadium as Shanti Veronica Pereira grabbed bronze in the women 100m event.
The last time a Singapore women athlete who was on the 100m medal podium was 42 years ago when Eng Chiew Guay ran 12.5s HT to win gold at the 1973 edition of the SEA Games held in Singapore.

Philippines athletes dominated the blue-ribbon event in both the men and women categories. Eric Cray (10.25s) and Kayla Richardson (11.76s) are the new SEA Games sprint king and queen respectively.

Singapore President Tony Tan gave a surprise visit to our athletes earlier. A shocked Shanti Veronica Pereira and Calvin Kang was overwhelmed by the Presidential support.
Pray and ye shall receive. Looks like Thai’s PURAHONG Porranot prayers was answered as he rewrote SEA Games men pole vault record with a new height of 5.30 metres. Our Singapore boys in the pole vault soared as high as they could earlier. Great job guys.

Vietnam’s Nguyen Van Lai erased the SEA Games record for the men 5000m final with a new timing of 14:04.82. While Singapore representatives Melvin and Jeevaneesh finished 7th and 8th respectively.
