Cedar Girls’ Secondary School Lynette Lim Enxuan is the new National record holder in the open women category of the triple jump, pending ratification by SAA, when she leapt 11.79 metres on the fourth day of the 54th National Inter-School earlier.
The Championship which was held at Choa Chu Kang saw the 16-year-old in three jumps one after the other establishing a septuplets of records, the National, National Junior, Youth Best Performance, Under-23, Under-19, Under-17 and B-Division record.
She improved the old mark by six centimeters previously held by Mariam Shazana bte Jalalludin 11.73 metres in 2009 at Vietnam.
The young petite athlete has shown signs of threatening to crack the national mark this year as Lynette’s recent results has shown her to be in a sublime form.
Before her national mark effort, Lynette leapt 11.66 metres (1.9m/s) at the recent 1st Singapore Youth & Junior Athletics Championships 2013 in March, and 11.34 metres (-0.6m/s) in January.
Only a handful of records were ever successfully established at the National Inter-School Championship.
The recent one was Chan Sheng Yao’s pole vault 4.82 metres exploit last Friday at this very edition of the Championship, Sean Lim’s pole vaulting 4.80 metres in 2011, and former 80’s sprint queen Prema Govinda’s 200 metres blitz at the 1984 Championship (24.65 seconds A Division).
With this effort, the youth athlete deservedly has met two major overseas competition qualifying mark, the 8th SEA Youth Athletics Championships 2013 (Qual. mark is 11.12m in Jun) and the Nanjing 2nd Asian Youth Games 2013 (Qual. mark is 10.73m in Aug).
Lynette Lim Enxuan is however short of meeting the mark for the 8th IAAF World Youth Championships 2013, to be held in July. She would need to rewrite her own record as the qualifying mark is 12.30 metres.
She is currently being coached by Mr. John Seem.
