Press Release – Lien Choong Luen wins SA Elections

Mr Lien, 43, defeated veteran lawyer Edmond Pereira, who leads TeamSGP, 14-3 at the AGM on Friday.

“We are really humbled and very grateful for the trust placed in us by the affiliates,” said Mr Lien, who tasted success in his first ever bid for SA’s Presidency. He had also held posts at Triathlon Singapore and the Singapore Squash Rackets Association previously.

“And now really, what I’ve said to the team is it’s time to get to work to put into place the plans that we’ve outlined. It’s all action, no more talk.”

Team Ground Up’s nine-member slate is made up of: Lien Choong Luen, Gary Yeo, Marinda Teo, Joe Yap, Arthur Lin, Belinda Neo, Jonathan Tan Liong, Chen Siyuan, and Kelvin Ang. They will form SA’s new Management Committee for the term 2020-2022.

Mr Lien will take over the helm from outgoing chief Mr Tang Weng Fei, who had announced previously that he will not seek re-election at this AGM.

“Congratulations to Choong Luen and his team for earning the mandate from the SA Members. I wish them every success in taking the sport forward,” said Mr Tang.

Ahead of the elections, Team Ground Up told SA’s 23 affiliates that they aim to run the association with accountability, transparency, and without conflict of interest. They also revealed that the team have already secured S$100,000 in donations to fund their plans.
