The SAA Track & Field Series number four held on 8th May, moved to Singapore Sports School and Raffles Institution. Below is the highlighted events that made news over the 1-day competition.
16.07m (6kg) in the Boys Shot Put – Wong Kai Yuen
17-years-old Junior Hwa Chong Institution College student improved his old National junior boys shot put record mark by 70 centimeters, pending ratification by SAA. He erased his old 15.37m distance in the last Series 3. With his new effort, he also meets SEA Junior qualifying mark of 13.67m.
41.37m (2kg) in the Boys Discus – Wong Kai Yuen
17-years-old Hwa Chong Institution College student tossed 41.37 meters to meet SEA Junior requirement. The junior athlete crossed the 40.60m qualifying mark of 1.75kg discus weight, with a heavier discus of 2kg in the men open category.
38.01m (1kg) in the Women Discus – Chan Zhi Xuan
17-years-old ACJC student after an impressive form this year that saw her grab the ‘A’ division discus and shot put title in the recent National School, Zhi Xuan continues to shine by meeting the SEA Junior qualifying mark of 34.25m.
14.57s (-0.4m/s) in the 100m Women Hurdles – Dipna Lim Prasad
20-years-old Nanyang Tech University undergrad came close to her national mark of 14.56 seconds in the hurdles women height of 0.838m over the 100m. With this result she creeps closer to the SEA Games qualifying mark. Now it stands within 5% (14.68s) of SEA Games qualifying mark of 14.21s for 100m Hurdles Women (0.838m) .
55.30s in the Men 400m Hurdles – Zaki Sapari
19-years-old Republic Polytechnic student only in his third 400m hurdles event lowered his personal best to 55.30 seconds and effectively within 6% (55.45s) of SEA Games qualifying mark of 54.15s for 400m Men Hurdles (0.914m) .
15:05.98 in the Men 5,000m – Mok Ying Ren
23-years-old National University Singapore medical student came close to running sub-15 minutes as he ran an impressive 15:07.74. The national record stands at 14:57.61. The event was specially held in the evening to not only help Mok to clock better times, but also qualify for SEA Games. The result effectively categories him within 3% (15:07.74) of SEA Games qualifying mark of 14:59.85 for 5000m Men.
