Height: 172cm

Weight: 60 kg

D.O.B: 05/07/1993

Coach: David Yeo

He promised to break the men’s pole vault record, and duly delivered.

Sean Lim Zi Qing soared to new heights at the 52nd National Inter School Track & Field Championships 2011 today, where he re-wrote the 18-years-old men’s pole vault record to a new mark of 4.80 meters, pending ratification by SAA.

The old record which stood at 4.66 meters was set in 1993 by Mok Hay Foo, was shattered twice by Sean during his event.

The registered height also sets a new mark for the National Schools Boys ‘A’ Division, national junior and under-19 boys; the last two records pending ratification by SAA.

His last attempt gunning for the national record back in March at the 37th Singapore Junior Athletic Championships didn’t go down too well.

But the 17-year old was back with a vengeance and was on form earlier today. He attempted the height of 4.69 meters on his first-try and erased the record with room to spare.

Sean then set the bar height to 4.80 meters, and after a confident run-up he cleared again, much to the delight of the crowds in the stands.

The Asian Youth Games 2009 bronze medalist boldly increased another eleven centimeters to the bar. If he had succeed, he would be ranked joint second in the Southeast Asian region men’s pole vault ranking for the year 2010-2011, becoming the third athlete to clear 5.00 meters height.

Currently Thailand’s Kreetha Sinthawacheewa who is also the defending champion for men’s pole vault SEA Games is seeded first in the 2010/2011 pole vaulter rankings with a height of 5.22 meters.

But to his dismay, Sean faltered in his last three attempts to clear 5.00 meters.

Wearing the red and yellow colors of Hwa Chong Institution vest, at the end of his pole vault session, pump-fisting and brimming with a smile ear to ear, he was nonetheless delighted with his record breaking feat.
