Seow Yeong Yang looks composed before his 49.35 seconds 400m lifetime best run
Seow Yeong Yang from Raffles Institution on Day 4 of the 52nd National Inter School Track & Field Championships 2011 yesterday, equalled the 400m ‘A’ Division Boys record during the semi finals.
The 18-year-old clocked 49.35 seconds, equalling Millennia Institute’s Shalindran Sathiyanesan 2008 record-breaking feat.
It was no surprise however that the RI student athlete was in scintillating form. He was clocked twice running a sub-49 seconds for his splits in the recent 4x400m relays during SPH Relays, and the SEA Games time-trial.
Yeong Yang, who is currently in JC year 2, now goes into the finals of his 400m event this coming Wednesday, as the fastest qualifier.
His timing of 49.35 also betters the current season-best ran by a Singaporean this year which previously stood at 49.42 seconds by his fellow schoolmate Ng Chin Hui.
Coached by national relays squad coordinator, Melvin Tan, he has a daunting task ahead of him as the finals line-up includes fellow teammate Ng Chin Hui, 2010 ‘B’ Boys 400m champion, and Anglo-Chinese Junior College’s R. Avinash, last year ‘A’ Boys 400m defending champion.
