On day one early morning of the Asian Junior Championship on 12th June, our sprint queen Shanti Veronica Pereira took to the mondo track for her 100m women qualifying run.

The 18-year-old blitz her way to top spot in her heats with a timing of 12.00 seconds -1.7m/s and advanced to the semifinal which was to be held later that late afternoon.

Shanti didn’t disappoint and was in fine form, improving upon her Asian Junior 100m outing with a 11.95 seconds 0.4m/s semifinal showing & advanced to the final, held next day.

Her blue ribbon event was held earlier today at 4:15PM where she was seeded third and assigned lane 3.

The studious junior ran toe to toe with her Asian counterparts, and was awarded for her effort, her second bronze medal from her second Asian Junior consecutive biennial outing.

The 18-year-old sprint phenom finished in an incredible timing of 11.79 seconds.

However if not for the 3.0m/s windspeed blemish, it would have been a new national record (11.89s still held by Shanti herself). Any windspeed reading recorded above 2.0m/s is not deemed legal under IAAF rules and regulation on records ratification.

Shanti will compete in the 200m event next at 3pm tomorrow 14th of June (Heat 1, Lane 4).

The prodigal sprinter is currently being coached by Margaret Oh.
