Q) What are your hopes, dream and target this SEA Games?
I am well aware of the very tough competition in the upcoming games and I am going to give my best. To be able to compete with the best is a privilege and a great exposure. Aiming for a personal best.
Q) How’s your preparation for the SEA Games?
Tending to some injuries at the moment.
Q) How did you specialise in your particular event? Why this event, what’s the attraction?
I had been doing sprints, triple jump and long jump. I discovered that I enjoyed long jump the most because it’s fun learning new techniques and executing them in flight.
Q) Who is your coach, tell us more about him/her. Also a mention of your previous coaches.
I have actually been without a jump coach for many years and learnt jump techniques via the internet. I would then practise what I see and got my parents and friends to capture my jumps on video so that I can analyse my mistakes on my own afterwards. It’s only in the past year that my school engaged Mr Elwin Yong who put some structure into my practices.
Q) Do you take care of your nutrition and diet? Your opinion on supplements and food.
I am not very consious of my diet but I eat less carbo. I feel that I should not be putting on too much weight as I am a jumper and it would be tough to jump with a heavy weight. And as I am not running long distances, I don’t need to consume too much carbo.
Q) Aside from athletics, what else interest you? You could say the other part of your life beyond athletics.
I am interested in badminton. I also like playing the guitar and piano.
Q) How do you fit in your training/competing with your family and studies/work?
I am doing my A Levels this year and it is definitely a full plate balancing my sports, studies and family and friends. Prioritizing things that are of higher importance in the week ahead helps me plan what needs to be done first.
Q) Share with the readers, some aspects of your training regime.
Speed training, strength training and jumps.
Q) What are your long term athletics goals?
It will be great if I can still compete after I leave school and enter National Service. I would also like to coach others.
Q) What advice do you have for young aspiring athletes?
Be prepared for sacrifices, persevere and enjoy your event :)
