Singapore Athletes Set to Shine at 19th World Athletics Championships in Budapest

[10 August 2023], [Singapore] – Singapore Athletics (SA) is thrilled to announce the selection of two outstanding athletes, Shanti Veronica Pereira and Calvin Quek, who will proudly represent Singapore at the upcoming 19th World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest, Hungary.

Shanti Veronica Pereira has earned her place in the women’s 100m and 200m events qualifying via the World Rankings position (also the first time ever a Singaporean athlete compete at WCH by qualifying by WA system) and also from being Asian champion at the recent Asian Athletics Championships, reflecting her exceptional talent and hard work.

Meanwhile, Calvin Quek has secured his spot in the men’s 400-meter hurdles event through the Universality slot. His selection is a testament to his relentless training and commitment, and he is ready to compete alongside the world’s best athletes.

“Both athletes are under the guidance of Coach Luis Cunha, who has played a pivotal role in their training and development. The World Championships provide an opportunity for Shanti and Calvin to challenge their limits and showcase their abilities on the global stage and we are very proud to have them represent the Nation at this level”, said Singapore Athletics Vice President (Training and Selection), Mr Arthur Lin.

The 19th World Athletics Championships, scheduled to take place from 19 – 27 August 2023 promises an exhilarating display of athletic excellence.
