Workshop Title Progressive Workshop for Teachers

Summary Report
A total of 10 teachers from various schools attended this workshop. The KA workshop aims to create awareness to teachers on the new events being introduced by the IAAF. These events are progressive in nature to the existing running, jumping and throwing events for the three age categories. Teachers will be advised on how they could implement the new KA events to the existing events in their schools. These new events will be introduced in the Kids Athletics competitions. Teachers will also learn:
a) New format for the Team Award Challenge 2010, which replaces the current KA Competition format;
b) New disciplines which will be part of the new Team Award Challenge. These new disciplines include –
-
i) Bend Formula: Sprint Relay
ii) Bend Formula: Sprint Relay/Hurdles
iii) 1000m Endurance Run
iv) Triple Jump Within Limited Area
v) Teens Javelin Throw
vi) Teens Discus Throw
c) Demonstration cum hands-on of the existing and new disciplines by the teachers
Ms. Khairina did a PowerPoint presentation on the Team Award Challenge and explained the existing and new disciplines. Two SAA KA instructors conducted demonstrations on all disciplines while Ms Khairina explained the key points to note for each of the disciplines. Teachers had an opportunity for hands-on on all the disciplines. Ms. Khairina clarified queries by the teachers on the new disciplines during the practical session.
Teachers are more confident to conduct all the disciplines after undergoing the hands-on session.
On the whole the event achieved its overall intended objectives.
