The SAA family would like to extend our heartiest congratulations to SAA President Mr. Tang Weng Fei on his new appointments.
Tang Weng Fei appointed as Honorary President of the Asia Masters Athletics Association and Member of the Marketing and Promotion Commission for Asian Athletics Association
Following the 77th Meeting of the Council of the Asian Athletic Association in Wuhan, China, the AAA confirmed the appointment of Mr Tang as a member of the Marketing and Promotion Commission. The main role of the commission is to provide the AAA with advice regarding policy and strategic planning of the AAA’s marketing and promotional activities.
Mr Tang will also join fellow Singaporeans, Mr Maurice Nicholas, Mr Chan Chow Tin and Mr Ghana Segaran within the AAA set-up. Mr Tang said, “Being appointed to the Asian Athletic Association is an honour and I am looking forward to the new challenge. Asian Athletics is going from strength to strength, with the success of the Beijing Olympics and the recent announcement of the 2022 Tokyo Games, these are exciting times for the region and I am looking forward to being involved.”
In addition to his role with the AAA, Mr. Tang has also been appointed as Honorary President of the Asia Masters Athletics association. Mr. Tang will act as an advisor to the current President, Japan’s Kiyoshi Konoike as well as providing additional guidance ahead of the 17th Asia Masters Championships, which will be held in Singapore in 2016.
The new appointments will mean more responsibilities for Mr. Tang, however his first and foremost commitment will remain the continual growth and development of athletes within Singapore and delivering success on home soil during the 2015 SEA Games. Ahead of starting his new roles Mr. Tang said, “Following Mr. Ng Ser Miang’s (VP of SNOC & IOC) announcement of his intentions to groom more Singaporean for roles within international sports, I hope that these new appointments represent a step in the right direction for more international exposure and strengthen Singapore’s sporting connections.”
