24-year-old Wan Lay Chi last week travelled to South Korea after being invited by the Korean Association of Athletics Federations (KAAF) to the 2012 Mokpo International Invitation Throwing Meeting.
She participated in two events, the shot put and the discus throw.
Lay Chi debut her discus throwing season with a 44.12 metres opener, finishing in 6th position. She has a personal best of 48.47 metres in the event.
In the shot put event, Lay Chi who was last year SEA Games silver medalist had a trying time competing. She could only muster a 13.39 metres effort for a fourth placed finish, 11 centimeters short of her season-best, and a far cry from her personal best of 14.59 metres set in Palembang last year.
Still it’s an encouraging result as the undergrad prepares for the final phase of her season, before wrapping it up and coming back strong for next year big meets such as the biennial SEA Games.
