Q) What are your hopes, dream and target this SEA Games?
New personal best for individual event and hopefully a podium finish in the 4x100m with the team.
Q) How’s your preparation for the SEA Games?
All is well. Tapering down for the games, all set and ready to race.
Q) What are some of the biggest challenges in your sports career so far leading to SEA Games and your athletics career?
Finding and adapting to the new coach and injuries. My previous coach, Slava left the end of last year, December and that was the most devastating moment and definitely a wrong time because it was too close to SEA Games. It’s difficult to find a new coach where you can trust and willing to dedicate time to train me.
Q) How did you specialise in your particular event? Why this event, what’s the attraction?
I came from a distance background to begin with. Specialising in 100m made me more appreciative of the event itself naturally because of the short span of attention, focus and of course the distance.
Q) Who is your coach, tell us more about him/her. Also a mention of your previous coaches.
Fabian William – Ultra marathoner who used to do triathlon and extreme sport. A coach who is very stringent in technique and movement, together with his wife (also my physiotherapist), Jindee, corrected my movement mechanics to make me a better runner.
Viatcheslav – the coach who taught me that nothing is impossible. He set goals for me when I wanted to quit running in late 2010 and groomed me from nothing to somebody who participated in many major games. I’m thankful to have his as my coach and always believe in me.
Elangovan – the very first coach I have in Sports School who taught me that pain is temporary, glory is forever. Definitely need those mental push for middle distance.
Q) Do you take care of your nutrition and diet? Your opinion on supplements and food.
Diet wise, #eatdirtylooksexy hahaha. I always believe everything you eat should be in moderation, so no restriction for me. Supplement wise, stay clean and professional.
Q) Aside from athletics, what else interest you? You could say the other part of your life beyond athletics.
I like reading classics (written by Oscar Wilde or Charles dickens), crime thrillers or if not helping out in animal shelters whenever I am free.
Q) How do you fit in your training/competing with your family and studies/work?
Time management is the key. I made sacrifices to get to where I am today but I am lucky to have good friends who are athletes and we can feel one another and not alone in this! I’m fortunate to have my coach as my boss (in FWCC) so I can train in between coaching breaks :) I always have quality dinner time allocated to the family of mine after a long day of coaching!
Q) Share with the readers, some aspects of your training regime.
Six times a week, mostly two speed sessions, one power session, one speed endurance session, one relay training session and the rest strength and conditioning work.
Q) What are your long term athletics goals?

Q) What advice do you have for young aspiring athletes?
When you feel like quitting, take a step back and see how far you’ve come and nothing comes easy. Get through it and you’ll grow stronger
