International competition available for 2014

Dear athletes and coaches,

Please take note that the qualifying window is open for these games:

  2. Commonwealth Games 2014 (23 Jul – 3 Aug ; Glasgow, Scotland)

  4. Asian Area Qualification (AAQ) for 2nd YOG 2014 (21 May – 22 May ; Bangkok Thailand)
  5. Asian Games 2014 (19 Sep – Oct 4 ; Incheon, South Korea)
  6. 6th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2014 (15-16 Feb 2014 ; Hangzhou, China)
  7. 9th SEA Youth Athletics Championships 2014 (27-28 Apr 2014 ; Myanmar)

 


Selection of overseas meet

Please adhere to the following selection policy and criteria:

Note: Overseas meet requests are for Open invitational meets and do not include qualifying for meets such as SEA Youth, Asian Junior, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games.

    Calling all athletes who are interested to compete in overseas competitions that SAA has been invited.

    Please submit your intention to SAA once the overseas meet information and window is open as soon as possible or 5 days before the closing date.

    Based on the quota given by organiser (on a meet by meet basis), SAA is willing to send any Singaporean Athlete who meets or betters the SEA Games 2013 bronze medal benchmark.

    If the quota is not met based on the number of athletes selected and confirmed, any Singaporean Athlete who is 5% or less from the SEA Games 2013 bronze medal benchmark, will also be nominated. All these athletes will be ranked and the cut off will be the quota number invited. If the quota has been reached and if you are still keen to compete, SAA is willing to co-pay with you at 50% of the flight tickets and if you meet or better the bronze medal benchmark, SAA will reimburse you the fees paid.

    For other athletes who are 6-10% off the 3rd placing of the SEA Games 2013 and are keen to compete, SAA will, on a case by case basis endorse you to be part of the team but you will have to bear the full costs of the air ticket and room and board stipulated by the organiser. Upon achieving the qualifying mark or better, SAA will reimburse the full amount to you.

    Only 2 Athletes per country are allowed to be entered per event. If more than 2 athletes meet the bronze medal benchmark, the top 2 ranked athletes according to the qualifying window period will be nominated as well.

    All SAA sanctioned competition results will be considered for nomination.

    All athletes who are nominated and selected will have to attend all Team Training, Briefing & Camps.

    SAA reserves the right to drop any qualified Athlete if the Athlete is deemed unfit to perform at a competitive level.

SAA uses IAAF Scoring Tables of Athletics for its selection criteria. Links to the 2014 edition is as below:

 


1. Asian Junior Athletics Championships 2014

(12 Jun – 15 Jun ; Taipei City, Taiwan)

    a. 6th placing of Asian Jrs 2012 (See below qualifying mark table below).

    b. SAA is willing to send any Singaporean Athlete who meets the qualifying mark. If no Athlete or less than 8 Athletes meet the marks, SAA is willing to send a maximum of 8 athletes who are closest to the qualifying mark based on the percentage each one is from the qualifying mark’s IAAF points.

      Example comparing 100m boys vs Long Jump Boys performances

      100m Qualifying time 10.86s = 928 points ; Long Jump Qualifying distance 7.22m = 962 points

      Athlete runs 10.89; This is worth 919 points and is 1% off the QT.

    c. If only 2 Athletes per country are allowed to be entered per event but more than 2 athletes meet the qualifying mark, the top 2 ranked athletes during the qualifying window period below will be nominated

    d. All SAA sanctioned competition results below will be considered for nomination.

      1. SAA Track & Field Series 1 – 3

      2. IVP Track & Field Championship

      3. National School T&F C’ships

      4. Or overseas competitions in SAA calendar of events 2014 that fall between Jan 2014 to 16 April 2014

    e. All athletes who are nominated and selected will have to:

      i. Attend all Team Training, Briefing & Camps

      ii. Compete in the Singapore Youth & Junior Athletics Championships and or National Schools Championships for fitness and performance monitoring

    f. SAA reserves the right to drop any qualified Athlete if the Athlete is deemed unfit to perform at a competitive level.

Missing in the above is Decathlon and Heptathlon events which will be contested at Asian Junior.

6. 6th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2014

(15-16 Feb 2014 ; Hangzhou, China)

    Dear athletes and coaches, further to our announcement earlier on Monday, this is an update.

    We invite you to register your wish to be considered for the AIC by fax (6563867773) / email (SAA) to SAA by Thursday 23 Jan before 5.00 pm.

    We are willing to send anyone who met the qualifying mark or a minimum of 4 athletes closest to the qualifying mark (if no one or less then 4 who met the mark) to the AIC.

    We will select the athletes based on results from SAA series 1 on 25 & 26 Jan 2014.

    We will be using the 2012 Asian Indoor 6th placing results for the selection. See below table.

    All events from indoor results have been converted to outdoor results from IAAF points system for easy reference since we don’t have an indoor track for reference. Only events for 60m, 60m hurdles and all field events will be using same indoor qualifying mark results. Only 2 athletes per event can be selected and nominated for the AIC.

    Only Singapore citizen are nominated for the AIC.

7. 9th SEA Youth Athletics Championships 2014

(27-28 Apr 2014 ; Myanmar)

Selection Criteria for Singapore athletes

SEA Youth selection for Singaporean citizen only.

Minimum 16 years old (1997 & 1998 only) to be selected for this meet. Athletes must be below 18 years old (16 & 17 years old to be selected).

    a. 3rd placing of SEA Youth 2013 (See below qualifying mark table).

    b. Athletes who met the qualifying mark will be nominated.

    c. If only 2 Athletes per country are allowed per event and more than 2 athletes meet the qualifying mark, the top 2 ranked athletes according to the qualifying window period from Jan 2014 – Mar 2014, will be nominated.

    d. All SAA sanctioned competition results from Jan 2014 – March 16 2014 (or up till SAA series 3) will be considered for nomination.

    e. All athletes who are nominated and selected will have to:

      i. Attend all Team Training, Briefing & Camps

      ii. Compete in the the National Schools Championships for fitness and performance monitoring

    f. SAA reserves the right to drop any qualified Athlete if the Athlete is deemed unfit to perform at a competitive level.

    g. Relay selection will only be finalised once the team is formed.
