Selection Criteria

1. ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY

Athletes qualified to take part in the 2nd Asian Youth Athletics Championships have birthdates from year 2000 - 2001 (Athletes aged 16 or 17 years). No athlete younger than 16 years may be entered.

Please submit your interest by 10th April 2017.

Only Singapore citizen are nominated for this competition.

Last Minute Withdrawal (more than 3 days after SAA announced Final List)

In the event that the selected athletes decided to withdraw (prior to the departure/did not compete at all) due to injury or other reasons (unless clash of events), the athlete have to bear the full cost (air tickets, insurances, accommodation or other costs) that SAA have paid for the trip.

Please submit your interest to SAA (SAA) once the competition information is published and window is open.

Please also be reminded to strictly adhere to any stipulated closing date for submission for each meet.

Based on the quota given by the organizer (on a meet by meet basis), SAA will send any Singaporean athlete who meets the Youth qualifying mark.

Conditions

When only 2 Athletes per country are allowed to be entered per event and if more than 2 athletes meet the qualifying marks, the top 2 ranked athletes within the qualifying window period will be nominated.

All SAA sanctioned competition results will be considered for nomination.

All athletes who are nominated and selected will have to attend all Team Training, Briefing & Camps.

SAA reserves the right to drop any qualified Athlete if the Athlete is deemed unfit to perform at a competitive level.

5. APPEALS

a) The appeal process concerning non-selection or removal from the squad will be heard by SAA Training & Selection(T&S) and Sports Development and Performance (SDP) department.

b) The sole ground for any appeal are that this selection policy was not properly followed and/or implemented.

c) Any appeal by an athlete against non-selection or removal from the squad must be made to SAA within 3 working days from announcement. Any appeal must accord with the following procedure:

    i. The SAA T&S and SDP department will convene a hearing as soon as possible after the submission of the grounds appeal. The hearing may occur in such manner as the Vice President of Training & Selection decides, including telephones or video conferencing. The SAA T&S and SDP department is not bound by the rules of evidence but must observe the principle of procedural fairness.

    ii. Prior to the hearing, the Selection Panel will provide the SAA T&S and SDP department and the appellant with a written statement as to the reasons for the decision against which appeal is made.

    iii. The SAA T&S and SDP department will give its decision as soon as practicable after the hearing and will provide the appellant with a statement of the reason for its decision.
