Nine of our best youth athletes will be competing in Donetsk for the coveted athletics competition for 16-17 years to be held at the Eastern Europe nation of Ukraine.

The biennial Championships organized by International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) starts this Wednesday.

It’s a glittering global athletics event comprising track and field events for competitors who are 17 or younger (youth).

To date this is the largest team we’re sending to the Championships. Previously on two occasions we sent 8 youth athletes in 2011 and 2009 edition.

Singapore athlete best performance in the competition was Stefan Tseng’s exploits in the boys triple jump event in 2007 where he finished fourth, missing out narrowly on a bronze medal.
