Event Write-up

As part of the lead up to the Singapore National Games (SNG) 2014, Sport Singapore (SportSG) will be organising the inaugural Stadium Run to mark the official opening of SNG 2014.
The 5-round Stadium Run will see participants running a total distance of 4.44 km with the flag off at the National Stadium. The fixed distance provides a reference point for personal best times, thereby creating a personal challenge for any individual runner.
The Run also aims to relive part of the history of the old National Stadium where NAPFA (National Physical Fitness Awards) used to be held on a regular basis.
Participants will be running on a route marked with landmarks like the Singapore Indoor Stadium, OCBC Aquatic Centre and the OCBC Arena.
“In addition to the medals for winners, $36,000 in cash prizes is up for grabs, including a finisher tee shirt fro all runners”, said Mr Lai Chin Kwang, Organising Committee Chairman of SNG 2014.
Sport SG is also planning to hold the Stadium Run annually, for participants to challenge themselves and their friends to set record timings.
“After this inaugural Stadium Run, SportSG will develop this into the annual Stadium Run Challenge where running enthusiasts will pit themselves among the best and set the record timings,” said Mr Lai.
“In addition to this annual event, SportSG is also exploring the possibility of organising a monthly run where the top runner will be recognised.”
The closing date to register for the run is 26th October 2014 and interested parties can register here.
