The Commonwealth Games is not short of drama, as the teams which were disqualified yesterday in the Round 1 of the 4x100m men’s event appealed, and was successful.
They overturned the ruling of exchanging of baton outside the take-over zone. Bahama and Australia will now take place of Singapore and Nieu respectively in the finals, to be held later in around 3 hours time.
A damper of a news to our team indeed, but they have achieved their targets of a fine 100m individual performances, and a season-best in the 4x100m.
If based on the results of Round 1, Team Singapore is ranked tenth fastest out of the 19 Commonwealth teams in the Heats. We’re proud of you guys!

Looks like lady luck is smiling for our men’s relay team as they progressed to the finals, at the expense of the Bahamian, and Australian teams.
They qualified as the automatic top two qualifiers with Niue; yes it’s a country, an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean; after the Bahama and Australian relay teams were disqualified for passing out of the zone.
For their Round 1 race yesterday, our boys in the relay order of Gary Yeo, Md. Elfi Mustapa, Md. Amirudin Jamal, and Calvin Kang finished in a time of 40.14 seconds, while Niue ended their race in 44.85 seconds.
The 40.12 second achieved was the boys season-best timing behind their Hong Kong’s race back in July, where they were clocked at 40.42 seconds.
For the race itself, Gary Yeo had a blinding start. Via lane 5, he was the first to react from the starting blocks, even surprising the Aussies on the outer lane.
The passing of baton transition was smooth overall, but still Team Singapore needs more pace.
If there’s one thing you can’t hurry, is getting your speed back after an injury, and two of our boys are recovering from such.
Well this is a great opportunity for our boys to suit-up again later today in the finals, and try one more time to go under the 40-seconds barrier that has been elusive to them all-year long.
