The Republic has sent two representative for the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships, Gary Yeo and Dipna Lim-Prasad. They will be accompanied by Coach cum official Viatcheslav Vassiliev.

The indoor games in its 14th edition is to be held at Istanbul, Turkey. The team departed yesterday night and will arrive on March 13th at 6am.

26-year-old Gary will be running the 60 metres event. He is scheduled to run the qualifying round this Friday on the 9th of March at 5:35PM Istanbul time. The SMU undergrad has a personal best of 6.71 seconds in the event.

While our national record holder in the women 100m hurdles, Dipna Lim-Prasad will have another crack in the 60 metres hurdles event. Her debut outing at the Asian Indoor three weeks back running the event, she finished in a time of 9.25 seconds. Dipna will run her preliminaries on Friday too, at 5PM Istanbul time.

SAA President Mr. Tang Weng Fei was unable to make it and send his best regards to the team and wish them all the best at the Championship. He urges them to do Singapore proud.

Note: Singapore is 6-hours ahead of Turkey

The below are the top 3 ranked male and female athletes that SAA will be looking at to nominate for the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships (9-11 March).

Men


  1. Stefan Tseng – Triple jump 15.72 1017 points Sea Games

  2. Gary Yeo – 100m 10.64 996 points Sea Games

  3. Lee Cheng Wei – 200m 21.60 981 points Sea Games

Women


  1. Dipna Lim-Prasad – 100m/h 14.44 979 points Sea Games

  2. Shanti Veronic Pereira – 100m 12.37 948 points Series 1

  3. Eugenia Tan – 100m 12.56 916 points Series 1

The athletes above are nominated based on their best recent performance (from Sea Games 2011, SAA Track & Field 6th Series 2011 to SAA Track & Field 1st Series 2012) using IAAF Scoring Tables of Athletics 2012.

SAA will only nominate the best 1 Male and 1 Female and the 2nd and 3rd place will stand by as reserve. For Field event entry, we can submit but it’s still up to the IAAF Technical Committee to confirm with us upon submission if the best athlete is from field event will be accepted.

There’s still another competition, SAA Track & Field 2nd Series 2012 for which athletes can still qualify if they outscored the current nominees.

SAA Training & Selection Committee has set the following condition & criteria for the selection for 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships.

Athlete Eligibility: Singapore Citizen Only

Qualifying Meets for consideration:

  • Sea Games 2011
  • SAA Track & Field 6th Series 2011
  • SAA Track & Field 1st Series 2012
  • SAA Track & Field 2nd Series 2012

Athletes younger than 16 years (on 31 December 2012, i.e. born in 1997 or later), CANNOT be entered in any event.

Wind-assisted performances above + 2.0 m/s will not be accepted

For the running events of 400m and over, performances achieved on oversized tracks will NOT be accepted

Deadline cut off will be on 13 Feb 2012, Monday at 12noon.

Entry Rules

  • Each Member is entitled to enter up to three competitors in each event of the Championships, provided all have achieved the corresponding entry standard, but only two will be permitted to compete (except the Comined Events and the Relay – see below).
  • For the Combined Events, eight (8) athletes will be invited by the IAAF in the Heptathlon and in the Pentathlon as follows:
  • the three best athletes from the 2011 Outdoor Lists (as at 31st December 2011) limited to a maximum of one per country and
  • the three best athletes form the 2012 Indoor Lists during (as at 20th February 2012)
  • two athletes which may be invited at the discretion of the IAAF
    In total no more then two male and two female athletes from any one Member will be invited.
    Upon refusals or cancellations, the invitations shall be extended to the next ranked athletes in the same lists respecting the above conditions.
    Members whose athletes are invited as above will receive additional quota places accordingly.
  • For the Relays, each Member Federation will be able to enter up to 6 athletes in each team.
  • Members who have no male and/or no female qualified athletes whom they wish to enter in any event may enter one unqualified male athlete and/or one unqualified female athlete in one event except the Combined Events.
  • The acceptance of unqualified entries in the Field Events is at the discretion of the Technical Delegates.
  • Youth athletes (any athlete aged 16 or 17 years on 31 December 2012, i.e. born in 1995 or 1996) CANNOT be entered in the Men’s Shot Put.
  • Athletes younger than 16 years (on 31 December 2012, i.e. born in 1997 or later), CANNOT be entered in any event.

Conditions

  • Performances must be achieved during the qualification period of 1st January 2011 to 27th February 2012 (midnight Monaco time), except for the Combined Events (see above).
  • Performances must be achieved during competitions organised or authorised by the IAAF, its Area Associations or its National Member Federations. Thus, results achieved at university or school competitions must be certified by the National Federation of the country in which the competition was organised.
  • Performances must be achieved during an official competition organised in conformity with IAAF Rules.
  • Performances achieved in mixed events between male and female participants, held completely in the Stadium, may be accepted under specific circumstances and conditions (see IAAF Rule 147).
  • Wind-assisted performances will not be accepted.
  • Hand-timed performances in 60m, 100m, 400m, 60m Hurdles, and 100m/110m Hurdles will not be accepted.
  • For the running events of 400m and over, performances achieved on oversized tracks will NOT be accepted.
